Following Mahoning County's "Penguin Parade" in 2004, Trumbull County (Ohio) sponsored a similar public art event called "The Spectacle of Speed" in 2007. This event featured large-scale sculptures portraying the iconic hood ornament from classic Packard automobiles manufactured in Warren, OH. My version of "The Goddess of Speed" was titled "I Rise."
In my piece, the goddess seems to emerge from a marble pedestal, which begins to break away in pieces and reveals beautiful greens and fauna which are abundant in the area. Arising through the gardens, one sees recognizable architecture and other features from Trumbull County. She has a metallic appearance covered by vines.
"I Rise" was purchased locally by Huntington Bank and donated to Trumbull Art Gallery.
